Tiisetso Thiba makes COSATMA proud.

Tiisetso Thiba who is attached to the Communication Services Directorate was one of the 15 000 runners participated at the down run of The Ultimate Human Race - Comrades Marathon held on 28th August 2022 in Kwa Zulu Natal Province.

This year's race started at Peitermarizburg City Hall to Moses Mabidah stadium in Durban for 89.9km with 12:00 hours set to finish the race.

Thiba who runs for Sesheng Athletic Club was a novice in this world prestigious race and managed to finished at the time of 11 hours :16 minutes and 50 seconds and got himself a Vic Clapham medal.

The Comrades Marathon is a brainchild of WWI veteran Vic Clapham and its inception run was on the 24th May 1921 and has been run by various runners from across the world every year with the exception of World War II to commemorate South African soldiers killed during the war. In 2020 & 2021 the race halted due to the outbreak of Covid 19.

“I was well prepared for the race and followed our training program because as a novice you don't know what could happen in during the race, that's the reason why you have pay attention attentively to the legends and coach advices and iputs. Physical and mental strength is the key to finish The Ultimate Human Race,” Thiba said.

“As a department we would like to congratulate one of our colleagues Tiisetso Thiba for his bravery at this year's Comrades Marathon and represented the Department with merit,” said the Acting Head of Department Mr Molefi Morule

“I would like to encourage our officials to participate in various sporting codes to promote a healthy living lifestyle. And the Department would like to congratulate all the North West Province runners who participated in 2022 Comrades Marathon.

“To enter the race is a sign of bravery because it requires a great deal of discipline physical and mentally fitness in order to conquer the longest ultra marathon in the world,” said Mr Morule.

According to the Comrades Marathon race director Mr Rowyn James said the race might return to its normality month, June 2023 and it will be Down Run again.
